Tennessee is one of the least restrictive states in the nation in which to get married. There is no blood test, no waiting period and no witness required. Couples wishing to have a civil ceremony versus a religious ceremony will often request a Justice of the Peace.

Tennessee law does not recognize a Justice of the Peace for this purpose. However, specific current and former elected officials are authorized by law to perform wedding ceremonies.
